The Northern Lights

by Erica Frass

What dangers would you face to save the ones you love?

It’s just another day in the Arctic—until the day three young animals return home to find that their family members have suddenly and mysteriously disappeared. The determined group—an Arctic fox, an Arctic hare, and a polar bear—team up for an unexpected journey that will test them at every turn.

With a set of tracks serving as their only clue as to what happened, they set off through the cold and dangerous Arctic to try to locate their loved ones, learning the true meaning of trust along the way. The unlikely alliance between these natural enemies becomes a friendship as they fight and struggle to protect each other from the harsh conditions and the predators who threaten them. But will it be enough? What will they discover has happened to their families?   Will the three be reunited with their loved ones?

ERICA FRASS has an enormous love for animals, and she volunteers with the local animal shelter. She plans to become a veterinarian and work at the zoo. She and her family have two dogs and one cat, all adopted from rescue groups near their home in Oklahoma, and she dreams of one day owning a horse. Her other interests include reading animal adventure novels, drawing animals, crafting, and working on creative projects, being outside in nature, and spending time with her family and friends.

Erica was 11 years old when she wrote The Northern Lights and was inspired to do so in response to author/publisher Stephen Kozan’s visit to her school where he issued a “Flash Fiction” challenge to the students. Erica was the winner of the challenge and was given the opportunity to transform her story idea into a published work of fiction.
